Naya Burn - The WMCQ Top 8'er

Naya Burn

When you need to lay down some heavy punishment.

So this deck got me into the top-8 of the WMCQ tournament in Birmingham. The deck is very powerful and has game against the rest of the Modern decks. It can even carve it's way through Leyline of Sanctity & Phyrexian Unlife with thanks to the Atarka's Command.

So the way to run the deck is basically play the most expensive card in your hand most of the time, in the order of... Creatures first, then Sorceries, then Instants... Of course use common sense and time your anti-life-gain cards if the matchup requires it and you should be golden.

Here's the deck.. (The missing card is a Wooded Foothills... I can't seem to find my land binder at the moment, which is horrifically worrying)

Creatures (14)
4x Goblin Guide
4x Monastery Swiftspear
4x Eidolon of the Great Revel
2x Grim Lavamancer

Spells (27)
4x Lava Spike
4x Lightning Bolt
4x Rift Bolt
4x Boros Charm
4x Atarka's Command
3x Skullcrack
2x Searing Blaze
2x Exquisite Firecraft

Estate (19)
4x Bloodstained Mire
4x Wooded Foothills
4x Sacred Foundry
2x Stomping Ground
1x Copperline Gorge
4x Mountain

The Exquisite Firecraft is the absolute nuts, as it's uncounterable it's the ultimate win card against the more control meta-builds. No one expects it and 4 damage is always good.

Boros Charm is the king of the deck, 4 damage for 2 mana is unfair and Atarka's Command is often more than 3 damage too. (Especially if you take into account the stopping-life gain as theoretical damage)

The 60 are perfect imo.
As for the sideboard, I like the Volcanic Fallout against Merfolk and random decks here or there. It deals damage to the opponent too which helps!
  • Destructive Revelry is amazing right now in Modern, I'd consider going up to 4 in my next event.
  • Path to Exile stops a lot of combo stuff, it's a must have.
  • Rending Volley kills Twin and I don't think 3 is too many. Twin is still the most popular deck out there. Respect that!
  • Blood Moon is actually a lot worse than it reads, the best deck it goes up against is Jund and it's not even as effective as I thought against them, especially if you're not on the play and especially if it's not in your opening 7!
  • Lightning Helix is sweet, it works against a variety of decks, especially the mirror match/jund/naya.
  • Deflecting Palm is techy and can deal with combo decks like Ad Nauseum and Griselshoal. I like the card lots and might go to 2 of them.
