Still on the Dark Angels! They're starting to look colourful. Very christmassy colours.  These models are actually awesome.

The new format - Pro Tour Siege Rhino

Image
What did I learn from the pro-tour today? Siege rhino is still good Mantis Rider is back Jace, Vryn's Prodigy will be everywhere for the next 12 months. 4-5 colour decks will be dominant. Sligh has an opening to wreck many, many faces. After being involved in 3 days of chat on You-Tube, here's what I designed... Because as we got into the top-8, everything was just Siege Rhino, the card is still silly good! The new set... Siege of the Rhinoceros.

Rally the Ally - Mardu Allies Tweaking

I'm a brewin'  - Mardu Allies - Okay, so the original deck went through some playtesting against Jeskai Black and Tutelage.. It came out pretty favorably in both games. But more testing against the Jeskai Black deck is needed I think! (22 Allies) 3x Zulaport Cutthroat 4x Kalastria Healer. 4x Lantern Scout. 3x Drana, Liberator of Malakir. 3x Munda, Ambush Leader. 3x Chasm Guide. 1x Resolute Blademaster. (15 Spells) 3x Wild Slash 2x Kolaghan's Command. 3x Crackling Doom. 2x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. 1x Sorin, Solemn Visitor. 1x Muderous Cut. 4x March from the Tomb. (23 Lands) 4 Ally Encampment 4 Shambling Vents 4 Bloodstained Mire 3 Mardu Outpost 2 Mountain 2 Swamp 2 Battlefield Forge 2 Caves of Koilos On intial thoughts I think I need another land in the deck, was stuck on 3 and 4 lands when I needed to be on 4 or 5 mana for a while in some games.. Could just be variance making things a bit squiffy because it's played 5 games, or I

Mardu - The Temporary Spirit Home

Here's a cheeky little list I'm thinking about, I love Rakdos, yet I feel like I should champion Khans/Zendikar standard with a Mardu themed Allied deck. The allies won world war 2, not the axis.. Thus allies are powerful. That's my thesis on the matter. Mardu Allies. (22) 3x Zulaport Cutthroat 4x Kalastria Healer. 4x Lantern Scout. 3x Drana, Liberator of Malakir. 3x Munda, Ambush Leader. 3x Chasm Guide. 1x Resolute Blademaster. (15) 3x Wild Slash 2x Kolaghan's Command. 3x Crackling Doom. 2x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. 1x Sorin, Solemn Visitor. 1x Muderous Cut. 4x March from the Tomb. (23) 4 Ally Encampment 4 Shambling Vents 4 Bloodstained Mire 3 Mardu Outpost 2 Mountain 2 Swamp 2 Battlefield Forge 2 Caves of Koilos Sideboard remains unknown so far with a lack of pro-tour to occupy all the drones and make the meta easy for me. But I think these cards are a good consideration... Mardu Ascendancy : Plays around Radiant Flames, mak

Battle for Zendikar, penny for the thought [FINANCES]

BATTLE FOR ZENDIKAR PRICE STRAT! Makin' money, spendin' cash!  One of my favourite things about a new set is looking at the crazy prices cards spike and plummet with. Don't get me wrong I don't always appreciate spending £25 on a Planeswalker card... But I love buying £2 rares which become chase rares (Pack Rat for example) and this is my time-stamped list of cards I'm going to talk about before the Battle for Zendikar pro-tour. CARDS WHICH ARE UNDERVALUED! 1) Bring to Light - £4.00 - Despite not being a mythic rare, this card is awesome and we have an amazing mana base to use in Battle for Zendikar. Bring to Light screams power and at less than $10 (£6) it seems like a steal. 2) Woodland Wanderer - £2.00 - Potentially a 6/6 for 4 mana seems ridiculous strong and again we're in the period of standard where we can get 4 different colour mana quite easily on turn 4. I like the card, it's effecient and it's only £2.00... I'll pr

Supreme Superfriends: U/W Control in Modern

Image
Azorius Control - Superfriends Modern!  "no soul, I gotta have more control.." ~ Fear Factory, Soul Hacker. I seem to have found one of the most beautiful modern control decks of the current era. I'm not talking about the one from Worlds. This one is special because I get to play Timmy cards which are super powerful and ruin the board, turn after turn, after turn! Mace Windu : The 'azorius' senate will decide your fate. Supreme Chancellor : [ now speaking as Darth Sidious ] I AM the 'azorius' senate! The Deck!   Spells (25) 4x Path to Exile 3x Supreme Verdict 2x Timely Reinforcements 3x Serum Visions 2x Telling Time 4x Remand 2x Mana Leak 4x Cryptic Command 1x Sphinx's Revelation   Creatures (4) 4x Snapcaster Mage  Planeswalkers (6) 1x Gideon Jura 1x Elspeth, Sun's Champion 1x Jace, Architect of Thought 2x Narset, Transcendant 1x Ugin, the Spirit Dragon   Land (25) 4x Flooded Strand

Naya Burn - The WMCQ Top 8'er

Image
Naya Burn When you need to lay down some heavy punishment.  So this deck got me into the top-8 of the WMCQ tournament in Birmingham. The deck is very powerful and has game against the rest of the Modern decks. It can even carve it's way through Leyline of Sanctity & Phyrexian Unlife with thanks to the Atarka's Command.  So the way to run the deck is basically play the most expensive card in your hand most of the time, in the order of... Creatures first, then Sorceries, then Instants... Of course use common sense and time your anti-life-gain cards if the matchup requires it and you should be golden. Here's the deck.. (The missing card is a Wooded Foothills... I can't seem to find my land binder at the moment, which is horrifically worrying)  Creatures (14) 4x Goblin Guide 4x Monastery Swiftspear 4x Eidolon of the Great Revel 2x Grim Lavamancer Spells (27) 4x Lava Spike 4x Lightning Bolt 4x Rift Bolt 4x Boros Charm 4x Atarka's Command

Battle for Zendikar pre-release. In the shadows of the Dragons.

Image
So yesterday was the BFZ pre-release and I ended up on Naya Allies... They surpassed my expectation and I think they're going to be hot topic during drafts of BFZ... I'm also thinking there is a Collected Company standard deck with their name on it coming soon... The Modern deck is a plain given I think! The card that did me so well was the Dragonmaster Outcast, winning me 3 of 15 games on his own. Cheers buddy! I owe ya!  Much power in this card! Skippy also took a rather funny pic of Steve Bains, he's got a thing for punching stuff though.

Drafting Modern Masters 2 :- Primer to Mechanics and Archetypes.

Image
THE LOWDOWN ON MODERN MASTERS 2 I'm looking mainly at the common/uncommons when considering decks etc, the rares/bombs are surplus to the deck and consistency in my head is always key for drafting. Modern Masters 2 is no exception. Of course if you pull something crazy good in rare/mythic, then play it! But it's wrong to put lots of emphasis on those cards when analyzing a set because we're less likely to see them in our packs... We all know when a rare is good enough to take/splash for, so let's really dig deep into the meat of the set... The commons and uncommons and the gloriousness of them in this set. Firstly let's look into the Mechanics.... Anihilator - Mechanic of the Eldrazi/Ramp Strategy. - It's the mechanic I'm not massively worried about, but if the game goes late and your opponent lands an Eldrazi, then the 'toppling' effect is quick. Be more interested in the Eldrazi coming down on 8 & 9 mana (common/uncommon
