2017, you were good to me.
Achieved living independence in a lush flat in Brighton. Deffo proud of this place even if it's a tad costly.
Offset the costly flat with the new job from 2016 and managed to get a promotion to a leadership based role. (tho I'll be rescinded from that responsibility fairly soon)
Got CFB: Core Staff for the year meaning I worked all CFB Grand Prix's in Europe, landed a good enough impression in Birmingham to be trusted into the 'Spec Ops' role for Lyon, a role which holds a lot of responsibility and is critical in ensuring a Magic Grand Prix runs smoothly for all involved. I had positive feedback on my work in Lyon and some areas to develop too (the best kind of feedback!) I'm already back in the role in January in London and want to visit USA and do a Grand Prix out there too.
I managed to reach day 2 of 2 Grand Prix's (Barcelona & Liverpool) out of the 4 GP's I played in.
The downsides were my emotions ruled my head from time to time, specifically a couple of points in the Judge Program where ultimately it put me off sitting the Level 2 exam (a goal I'd set for 2017 initially) this may be revisited in 2018.
The other downside is with all the busy weekends judging/playing magic I neglected some people I shouldn't have, I still suck at communication outside of working environments and I really gave up caring about my health/fitness, spending 22/25 days of my holiday for working magic events meant that I spent the entire year feeling a little tired and worn around the edges. That had a non-zero effect on the fact this year I've been more ill with bugs/flu's than any other year of my life. Again I need to make sure my holiday balance is sorted.
2018 will be a year of giving back a little more.
- I want to give back to CFB by continuing to help with events where I'm welcome and give more feedback to other staff/CFB.
- I want to give back to my local support network of Judges/Players and get more involved at a local level again. It pays to not forget who supported me in getting to L1.
- I want to challenge Brexit harder than I have, probably further away from Facebook and more on the streets/you-tube working with other members of the 48% in hope that we can somehow reverse the decision. I'm unlikely to have kids but if hell froze over and it happened I want them to have the best UK possible and believe this is going to be part of crafting that.
- I want to realise my lifelong concious concern of the environment and actually do something about it. Vegetarian in January to try and lessen my consumption impact, spread awareness and see what realistic goals I can set myself, family and friends in 2018 to help all do our bit to keep the environment going just that bit longer.
